In the spring semester of 2019, Gaurav was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to be a Guest Artist and Visiting Instructor at Ohio Northern University’s Department of Theatre Arts. Gaurav directed the International Play Festival: India and taught a course:
Special Topics: Presence and Transcendence – the Theory and Practice of Rasas in Indian Performing Arts Traditions (3 credits)
This course was an introduction to Indian aesthetic theory and dramatic practices, based on the principles expounded in the Natyashastra. The introduction to the Rasa theory and practice was the central feature of the course, focusing on specialized breathing and physical techniques to produce the nine basic emotions, or rasas. Students were exposed to a different artistic sensibility, that which pervades all the performing arts of the Indian subcontinent.
